My team took 2nd place at the Llama Stack Hackathon, hosted by 8VC and Cal Hacks at UC Berkeley, and walked out with the prize check from 8VC.

We built the first smart command line tool powered entirely by locally deployed LLMs. Nobody should have to memorize endless flags. You tell it what you want in plain English and it works out the commands, flags, pipelines, and SQL, then runs them.

Running the models locally is the whole point. It cuts the round trip to a cloud API, which is what makes real-time translation and instant SQL feel usable instead of sluggish. That speed is the difference between a demo and a tool people keep open all day, and it is why I am betting on local models.

Scribe.ai won at Intel's national developer competition, and Intel brought us onto its Tech Decoded webinar on December 18, 2024 as one of the year's winning collegiate teams. Out of everything built on their platform that year, ours was one of the projects they chose to show the industry.

The session was Intel showing off real generative AI running on Intel Tiber AI Cloud with oneAPI, tuned across CPUs, GPUs, and AI PCs. We got to walk through how we built on it.

Scribe.ai is healthcare AI for patient management, and it goes well past writing up paperwork. It catches misdiagnoses, wrong dosages, and contraindications before they reach the patient. Clinicians get their time back, and the person in the chair gets a second set of eyes on their chart.

I got to sit down with David Goggins, the only person who has ever completed US Army Ranger School, Air Force Tactical Air Control Party Training, and US Navy SEAL Training.

We talked about hard work, entrepreneurship, and refusing to quit. His point was that success is not about talent or luck. It is consistency, dedication, and a willingness to sit in discomfort long after it stops being interesting.

One of the key takeaways from our discussion was the concept of "callusing your mind." David explained that just as we develop calluses on our hands to protect them from blisters, we need to develop mental calluses to overcome the challenges and obstacles we face in life. We can't decide what body and what gift was given us, the only thing we have control over is developing an unbreakable mindset. Holding ourselves accountable for whatever happens to us, we empower ourselves to make the necessary changes and take control of our destinies.

I spent five months, June through November, on the core team that built the DECODE Innovation Conference 2023. On November 4 we took over UC Berkeley's Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology for a full day.

The stage we booked: Jonathan McKay from OpenAI, Ben Smith from Google, Angela Le from Salesforce, Junyan Xie from TikTok, Lee Faus from GitLab, Sandy Diao from Descript, Kailesh Karavadra from EY, and UC Berkeley's own CTO. Fenwick sponsored the day. Getting that many operators from that many companies into one room, as students, is the part I am proudest of.

We built the whole thing around one question: generative AI is coming for a lot of work, so what is the human advantage and how do we unlock it? Founders, builders, and students spent the day arguing it out in talks and workshops, then we turned around and started planning 2024.
